New Collaboration between Higher Education and the NH Department of Education

On Wednesday, November 21, 2012 the New Hampshire Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) Network presented their position paper for strengthening and enhancing teacher education programs to the NH State Board of Education. New Hampshire may be the only state in which ALL (15) higher education educator preparation programs have committed themselves to membership in a network with the intention of working collaboratively with each other and the State Department of Education. A unique feature of their group is their proactive approach and willingness to share best practices, data collection techniques and to calibrate evaluation measures of student teachers and interns. This professional group has placed larger shared goals of excellence ahead of competitive inclinations that often impede collaboration.

The Network now stands ready to work with the Department of Education, the legislature and professional education organizations to build a modern workforce of educators, leaders and scholars fully prepared and strongly committed to excellence. This initiative is one of the many collaborations that have emerged from the P – 16 Working Group established by Governor John Lynch in 2006.

The plan was presented to the State Board by Audrey Rogers of Southern New Hampshire University and Thomas Schram of the University of New Hampshire.

The NH State Board of Education Votes Unanimously to Endorse the Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) Network Position Statement.
