Oregon Institute of Technology President

Oregon Institute of Technology seeks a collaborative, transparent, engaged, entrepreneurial and seasoned leader to serve as its next president.

Founded in Klamath Falls in 1947, Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) is the premier public polytechnic institution in the Pacific Northwest. With enrollment of nearly 5,000 students, Oregon Tech is founded on the principles of excellence through hands-on knowledge. Providing students with a rigorous, practical education, the public polytechnic institution offers learning experiences that challenge students to find real-world solutions. Oregon Tech’s applied curriculum blends theory and practice and is reinforced in the classroom by instructors with relevant business, industrial, or clinical experience. Oregon Tech is best known for its traditional engineering, healthcare and technological core, with new multi-dimensional degree options. Oregon Tech has locations throughout the Pacific Northwest. In Oregon, this includes the traditional, residential and largest campus in Klamath Falls, the urban campus in the Portland Metro area (located in Wilsonville), a program site in Oregon's Capitol of Salem at a community college, as well as growing online degree options. In Washington, Oregon Tech offers degrees to employees of The Boeing Company at sites in the Puget Sound area.

Oregon Tech’s curriculum is focused on applied technologies, engineering, health professions, applied sciences, communication and management. Faculty members and instructors teach theory and the application of that theory through hands-on learning with the latest technology in sophisticated labs. Oregon Tech offers a student-centered learning atmosphere where faculty teach their own classes and instruct their own labs, mentor and advise students, and provide guidance on research and externships.

The incoming president will be a person with a strong record of leadership effectiveness and success within a polytechnic or applied science-focused institution. She or he should possess superior interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to create, articulate and implement a shared strategic vision for the future; build, develop and work closely with a collaborative and high-functioning leadership team; and partner with campus, the Board of Trustees, donors, legislators, state higher education authorities, and external constituents to move Oregon Tech to greater levels of success and accomplishment. Oregon Tech’s next president should be a bridge-builder who is
familiar with leading a multi-site institution with locations in rural, suburban, and urban settings, each with a distinctive culture. She or he should value and appreciate the characteristics of a regional public institution with its main campus situated in the rural community of Klamath Falls, and 4.5 hours from Portland, the state’s largest urban center and location of the Wilsonville Campus.

Inquiries, nominations, and applications are invited. For fullest consideration, applicant materials should be received by September 16, 2016. Candidates should provide a curriculum vitae, a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the leadership profile, and the names and contact information of five references. Candidate confidentiality will be respected and references will not be contacted without prior knowledge and approval of candidates. Inquiries and application materials should be sent via email to the college’s consultants, Zachary A. Smith, Ph.D. and Ben Haden of Witt/Kieffer, at OregonTechPresident@wittkieffer.com. Questions may also be directed to the consultants through the office of Eden Stroud at 630-575-6154.

Offer of employment will be contingent upon ability to successfully complete a criminal history/background check.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, foreign nationals granted temporary residence under one of the 1986 legalization programs, refugees, and asylees.

As an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer, Oregon Tech’s commitment to a diverse and inclusive university requires that no person experience discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identification and expression or any other protected personal characteristic. We particularly encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, women, individuals with disabilities, veterans, LGBTQ community members, and others who actively demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
